Book Review: Zikora by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Synopsis

When Zikora, a DC lawyer from Nigeria, tells her equally high powered lover that she’s pregnant, he abandons her.

But it’s Zikora’s demanding, self possessed mother, in town for the birth, who makes Zikora feel like a lonely little girl all over again. Shunned by the speed with which her ideal life fell apart. Zikora turns to reflecting on her mother’s painful past and struggle for dignity.

Preparing for motherhood, Zikora begins to see more clearly what her own mother wants for her, for her new baby, and for herself.

Review (If you haven’t read the book you can stop at this point. I couldn’t help it, the book is quite short, so spoilers are almost inevitable)

BOOK REVIEW: LONG BRIGHT RIVER BY LIZ MOORE [GUEST POST]

Nancy Uchechukwu is my work colleague and bestie. We have one major common interest and that is – Books. However, unlike me, she isn’t shackled by the chains of the slow reader’s curse, she isn’t intimidated by big books and she goes for the hard hitting themes that will shake you to your very core and make you question the very essence of life. Not me. Because of her, I’ve read some of the best books ever written and I still have fond memories of those lovely stories. Anyways, she surprised me by sending me a review of a book she just read for the blog so here it goes.

Book Review: Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

Have you ever written off an author because of one book they wrote you did not like? I have. Once upon a time, I tried to read Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell and I hated the book. I couldn’t even finish it. When my work bestie recommended Attachments by the same author, I was like 😬 (grimacing face).

SYNOPSIS: Attachments is Rainbow Rowell’s first book written in 2011. The book is set in 1999/2000 in Nebraska. In this period, the internet is still a novelty and has been recently introduced in The Courier, A newspaper publishing organization. The management put in place rules to ensure ethical use of the internet by the employees at work. Lincoln is employed to enforce those rules by going through emails and flagging defaulters.

BOOK REVIEW: ASK AGAIN YES BY MARY BETH KEANE

This is a book I may never have been inclined to read maybe because of the cover. Does the aesthetic of a book cover determine whether you read a book or not?

Book Review: Joys of Motherhood by Buchi Emecheta

Have you ever read a book when you were much younger and then when you got much older and you reread the book and you got more clarity? I experienced this when I reread Joys of Motherhood by Buchi Emecheta a few days ago. It was a recommended reading in my Secondary School days and I decided to reread it a few weeks ago and it feels like scales fell off my eyes.
